Classes for the
New York
Burlesque Festival

Location: 440 Studios, 440 Lafayette at Astor Place, Manhattan.

Go directly to the studio (see specific class description for the room your class is held in, as the studies vary. Arrive dressed for a movement class (leggings, t-shirt, etc.), bring a spare pair of heels if you like, and a bottle of water.

The New York School of Burlesque is the official provider of classes for the New York Burlesque Festival.

RED DELICIOUS
- Class title: Business of Burlesque
- Time: Saturday, September 26th, 11:40am-12:40pm
-Studio: Room 4G on the 4th floor
- Class description: When you get into burlesque, it's very exciting with the performances, the costuming, the creativity but… it is a business after all, even as a hobbyist. This workshop will take you through some of those key points to help make you a stronger brand and not just a performer. In this class we will cover the business essentials of networking, self-marketing and promotion, and business planning for creatives. Suitable for: Existing performers, from beginners to experienced performers.
- Bio: MisRed Delicious is an internationally renowned, multiple title and award winning burlesque entertainer. She is the co-producer of the NZ Burlesque Festival and mistress of Red Rascal Productions which boasts a burlesque academy, regular shows and tour support for burlesque artists. She is a passionate force in the New Zealand Burlesque scene, and is fast building an international profile having performed around the world, in Australia, the USA and Europe. Her unique style of satire and tease is always sure to delight audiences.

JUDITH STEIN
- Class title: Get It On with Judith Stein!
- Class time: Saturday September 26th, 12:50-1:50pm
-Studio: Room 4G on the 4th floor
- Class description: Improve and add depth to your burlesque style! Get the goods direct from The Grand Beaver, Judith Stein! We are still creating the content for this class with Judith. We recommend you do not miss it, as Legends' classes are like no other classes--you'll get tips and hear stories straight from the source of burlesque history, with an edge like you never imagined!
- Bio: A performer for over 4 decades, Judith Stein's passion and energy is still felt on stage with standing Ovations after every act. After sneaking into the legendary Victory Burlesque Theatre at the tender age of 16, Judith knew what she wanted to do. After a few years she was touring Ontario performing in such venues as the Colonial Tavern, Club 212 and more. She claims to be Yorkville educated, which then was a pretty groovy place to pound the pavement, attending artist commune Rochdale and absorbing the underground subculture while exploring her role as a dancer.

JENNY ROCHA
- Class title: Dance Technique for Burlesque Performers
- Time: Saturday, September 26th, 2pm-3pm
-Studio: Room 4D on the 4th floor
- Class description: Strengthen your body and your dance technique with the director of The Painted Ladies, Jenny Rocha! This class will enhance your performance and acts as you learn about strong lines on stage, fun jazz and contemporary movement and the power of grounding your body. This class is for performers who would like to add dance technique to their training. Beginner level for performers with some training or none at all!
- Bio: Jenny Rocha & Her Painted Ladies won Best Large Group and Most Innovative at The Burlesque Hall of Fame 2015 in Las Vegas! Jenny is a the director of The Painted Ladies and Rocha Dance Theater. She is also a choreographer, performer, producer, costume designer and teaching artist. Rocha graduated with a BA in Dance from Roger Williams University where she received The Outstanding Achievement in Dance Award.

DIRTY MARTINI
- Class title: Fan Dance with Anything
- Time: Sunday, September 27th, 11:30 AM -1 PM
-Studio: Room 4C on the 4th floor
- Class description: Join us for the ultimate guide to graceful fan dancing! Learn tricks of the trade from the Sally Rand Award winner, Dirty Martini! You bring it and Dirty Martini will teach you to dance with it! Whether it's luscious ostrich feathers or kitchen pot lids, this class will teach you the basics of classic fan dance mixed with some new ideas for unusual props. Bring your concept and some clothing to move comfortably in and a pair of high heels. Dig in and learn secret moves developed from Miss Martini's many years spent researching vintage burlesque while establishing herself as the top star in the neo-burlesque movement!
- Bio: Miss Dirty Martini, The "definition of burlesque", is one of the most celebrated performers in the world of neo-burlesque. Voted number one burlesque performer in the world two years in a row by her many fans, Miss Martini has spearheaded the new burlesque revolution in New York City and all over the world with her over the top physique and classical dance training bringing vintage glamour into the 21st century. A leading figure in the American burlesque revival, Miss Martini has become an underground celebrity and a favorite of the living legends of burlesque who performed in the heydays of the 1940's and 1950's

KITTEN LARUE
- Class title: Wiggin' Out
- Time: Sunday, September 27th, 1:30pm-3pm
-Studio: Room 4A on the 4th floor
- Class description: Interested in pumping up the volume, but confounded by color matching? Intrigued by the idea of adding luxe to your locks, but have a tiny budget? Want to rock a sky-high hairdo on stage but terrified it will go flying into the audience? Have no fear, Kitten LaRue is here to share her tricks, techniques, and tips on wig wearing, purchasing, and basic styling 101. Consider this your primer if it’s your first foray into the fantasyland of faux follicles.
- Bio: Kitten LaRue is known for having some of the biggest, baddest hair in the biz, having over a decade of experience in the art of drag and burlesque. In this class she will guide those who are newer to wearing hairpieces and wigs through the often daunting steps of selecting, wearing, and simple styling of artificial hair pieces.
