An advanced class for experienced dancers, Miss Martini uses her
choreographic talents to teach a comprehensive warm up and challenging
routine for dancers who need a little polishing for their moves, grounding in
their technique or bravado in their onstage personality. This class works on
fluidity of movement while introducing the vocabulary of the old burlesque to
the modern eye of the classically trained performer. Focusing on musicality
and stage presence, it's the next step for a performer who feels comfortable
with movement and choreography, but would like to discover more about the
moves that make burlesque dancers unique.

A good and engaging burlesque number tells a very quick story or paints an abstract picture. Miss Martini holds a BFA in Dance and Choreography from Purchase College, one of the top 3 dance colleges in the US. In this workshop, she uses principles of modern dance choreography to create movement, define structure and use the space fully. Learn from her many years creating the neoÂburlesque movement using the vocabulary of classic burlesque and performance art. This class also explores the structure of music and how to break down a song into easy to digest parts and start to build a number with "marker points." Students will learn the correct terms used for musical structure and learn to write the musical phrases in order to find and write down the markers that create a dynamic choreography. About Dirty Martini
The "definition of burlesque", Miss Dirty Martini, is one of the most celebrated performers in the world of neo-burlesque. Voted number one burlesque performer in the world two years in a row by her many fans, Miss Martini has spearheaded the new burlesque revolution in New York City and all over the world with her over the top physique and classical dance training bringing vintage glamour into the 21st century. A leading figure in the American burlesque revival, Miss Martini has become an underground celebrity and a favorite of the living legends of burlesque who performed in the heydays of the 1940's and 1950's.
Miss Exotic World 2004, Miss Dirty Martini (named the "Sexpot Sophisticate" by New York Magazine) has been described as "one of the best in burlesque" by the New York Times, "the queen of them all" by the London Telegraph, and "the decadent expression of female sensuality in action" by the NY Daily News. Since the mid 1990's she has had audiences on their feet applauding in venues as diverse as Carnegie Hall and the Museum of Sex to notorious NYC nightclubs where she has been awarded a Glammy for her performances. Featured in a 5 page editoral in V Magazine shot by fashion legend Karl Lagerfeld, she has been a sought after model for photographers such as Mario Sorrenti, Roxanne Lowitt, Andreas Serrano and Terry Richardson. She has been featured in the following books: "New Burlesque", "Burlesque, the New Bump and Grind", "Burlesque from Gaslight to Spotlight", "Fantasies" and "The Velvet Hammer". With the Cabaret New Burlesque, she has starred in the Film "Tournee" by Mathieu Amalric which won the Palm for Best Director and the Critics Award at Cannes in 2010 and walked the red carpets in Cannes and Paris at the Cesar Awards as well as selling out shows in Italy, Holland and France. Miss Martini has wowed London on television's Paul O'Grady Show and in The Immodest Tease Show featuring a 12 piece orchestra lead by Barry Adamson. She has performed alongside critically acclaimed comedian Margaret Cho in her Off- Broadway show The Sensuous Woman and can be seen at international burlesque festivals Tease-o-rama in San Francisco-Seattle and LA, New York Burlesque Festival and the Burlesque Hall of Fame Weekend. About This Class
Dirty Martini's supportive yet exacting style of teaching will encourage and challenge you to be your best.
Come in with an idea for an act, or an act which you would like to improve.
For Performers and Students who have already had the experience of creating a burlesque routine. This class is not at all for beginners. Basic act development will not be addressed. If you are not sure if you are ready for this, please email schoolofburlesque@gmail.com with your concerns. All styles welcome.
Class size is strictly limited. Please register as soon as you know you are interested in the series.
This is the only series with Dirty at this time and there are no makeup sessions, but you may be able to schedule private coaching sessions with Dirty in addition to the series. Rates for private sessions are an additional $100 per hour plus studio rental fees.
Class will be followed by a student showcase performance at The Slipper Room, hosted by Dirty Martini.
