If you have ideas for acts, this workshop is for you! It's an ideal precursor to the principles that will be covered in action in the Act Development series in January, where students will spend several sessions developing their own individual routines. Bring whatever you've got--from nothing to an idea and a bit of music to an idea for a full routine you want to workshop in the future. Bring a notebook, a button-down shirt, a large towel, and a copy of The Burlesque Handbook. You can buy it online through amazon.com. In NYC, you can purchase the book at Bluestockings bookstore. It will not be available for sale in the class. We also recommend bringing any costume pieces you may be considering.

Although you can learn from this workshop if you have no idea at all what you'd like to do, you can bring a piece of music you like and any costume pieces you may have. If you are planning to do a classic striptease routine, please bring some of the music and costume you are considering if you have them. To learn classic burlesque movement, showgirl strutting, tassel twirling, and the moves of chair dance and fan dance, take Essential Burlesque.

Wear close-fitting clothes that you can move in, as you would to take a dance or yoga class. Although we take our shoes off to enter the space, you can bring shoes you plan to use in performance with you. We recommend wearing cute socks!

You may bring a snack such as an energy bar, but not a meal. You may bring beverages but you must take all your garbage out with you. Breaktimes will be as-needed.

We suggest taking the Act Development series with Jo Weldon in January 2022 if you want to perform in a student showcase. Join our email list or follow us on Instagram to be notified first when classes are offered, as this series is known to sell out in a matter of days.
