June 9 Guest Instructor: Miss AuroraBoobRealis
Bio:
Miss AuroraBoobRealis lights up the night stage with her unique mixture of raw and earthy, wild and fearless burlesque! She is a performing artist creating in the intersections of burlesque, dance, theater and poetry. Central to her existence is the fact that Aurora cannot and will not separate herself from her art, race, or political beliefs. She has a B.A. from Sarah Lawrence College and an M.F.A. in Interdisciplinary Arts from Goddard College with a focus on 20th Century Black Radical Artists and the intersections of dance, poetry, and theater. She is a co-founder/co-producer of Boombox Burlesque: A Hip Hop Burlesque Festival; the co-founder of brASS: Brown RadicalAss Burlesque, and back in 2007, Brown Girls Burlesque. She is also the Executive Director of BurlyCon - an international burlesque education convention in Seattle, WA.
As a burlesque instructor she has taught foundation courses as well as stand alone classes. Her most successful single class Bump It, Grind It, Bend It, Bring It: Musicality and Stage Presence received rave reviews from participants at BurlyCon as well as in Austin, Portland, Richmond, D.C. and NYC. She brings her wealth of experience and skills she’s honed as a teaching artist of twenty-seven years and group fitness instructor for more than a decade to the table as a burlesque educator. Aurora’s classes are super fun, accessible for all bodies and abilities and grounded in an understanding that she isn’t trying to teach people to dance like her, instead she is helping to expand their movement vocabulary so they can be more fully themselves.
